Caught neatly between an award win and an evening performance of the critically acclaimed Inter Alia, this week we’re joined by the formidable Rosamund Pike. Known for her iconic turns in Pride & Prejudice, Die Another Day, Gone Girl and I Care A Lot, Rosamund is currently commanding the West End as Crown Court Judge Jessica Parks. And there’s more on the horizon: she stars alongside Sacha Baron Cohen in Ladies First, a sharp satirical comedy landing on Netflix on 22 May. Safe to say, it’s a busy diary… and a very good time to be Rosamund Pike! But West End life, as it turns out, is not always kind to dinner plans, with pre-show meals skewing firmly towards the cold and, on occasion, the tinned. So when Rosamund hints this might be her only hot meal of the week, we’re only too happy to oblige. Angela serves up roast trout with beetroot and brown butter, simple, bright and exactly the kind of pre-show fuel dreams are made of. There’s also asparagus – blanched, buttered, and glossed with a splash of its own cooking water for a silky finish. The dish is paired with a glass of The Ned Pinnacle Sauvignon Blanc. At the table, Rosamund proves excellent company: dark chocolate as a pre-show essential (enter ‘chocolate chops’), a nose so finely tuned it dictates backstage etiquette, and a fragrance wardrobe to match each role.
