Pompeii is a city frozen in time and shows us exactly how the Romans really lived. Buried by volcanic ash and debris from the catastrophic eruption of Versuvius in 79AD, visitors to the Roman town can still see eerily preserved homes, bathhouses, the notorious brothel and plaster casts of victims in their last moments. Dan is joined by Dr Kate Lister to explain the history behind what remains at Pompeii and their top tips for visiting. Produced by Mariana Des Forges, edited by Natija Grauzinyte & the channel manager is Vilde Øksnes. 0:00 A City Frozen In Time 1:50 Exploring the Lost Roman City 12:38 Inside the Roman Baths & Gyms 19:33 Secrets of the Pompeii Brothel 26:48 The Final Moments: Vesuvius Eruption 36:48 The Weirdest Facts About Roman Life You can find more Dan Snow's History Hit on the audio podcast here: https://podfollow.com/dan-snows-history-hit/view Sign up to History Hit for hundreds of hours of original documentaries, with a new release every week and ad-free podcasts.
