Josh Cowen is an author and Professor of Education Policy at Michigan State University. Cowen has written, testified, and spoken widely on education policy and politics. His writing has appeared in outlets like Time Magazine, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Slate and The New Republic, and his work has been covered in the New York Times, NPR and elsewhere. The National Education Association named Cowen its 2025 Friend of Education—its highest honor. He is the author of The Privateers: How Billionaires Created a Culture War and Sold School Vouchers, an inside look at voucher history, politics, and policymaking.
