This week we’re joined by a comedian, author, podcaster, fisherman, pork-pie detective and all-round national treasure… Bob Mortimer. From his early days alongside Vic Reeves in Big Night Out, to regular appearances on Would I Lie to You? and more recently starring with Paul Whitehouse in Gone Fishing, Bob joins us to talk about The Long Shoe, the latest in his series of wonderfully quirky novels that have found a huge, devoted audience. It sits alongside The Satsuma Complex and The Hotel Avocado. Inside the Dish kitchen, Bob’s eyes go straight to the pork pie starter (naturally) and the crisp bowl. Angela then cooks up his nostalgic request; a kedgeree-style monkfish rice, served with a cold IPA. The Waitrose experts pair it with a glass of Paul Mas Réserve Languedoc Blanc. From his mum’s ‘scratch and sniff’ test for the perfect spud, to why certain TV shows demand certain snacks, and the doner kebab he only treats himself to when his wife’s not home, Bob’s wonderful food logic is truly unlike anyone else’s.
