For years, the narrative history of Guadalcanal always states that the United States Marines were the only ones ashore, and fought and won the battle single-handedly. That could not be farther from the truth. Coming ashore in October 1942, staying through the hellish days of that month into November, and taking over after the departure of the first marine division in December, The United States Army pushed the Japanese to the very edge of the island in the final offensives ashore.
